Day 19 - the nativity

On Sunday Im going to be in a Nativity play.  First time for probably fifty years.  In fact it might be the first time ever!  I have no recollection of ever having been in one as a kid.  Josh is in it too so it will be a real family affair 😀

If Lagan Valley Vineyard's nativity is anything like as good as this one I shall be well pleased.  Five minutes of delight.  Enjoy

I love words.  And I also am rather fascinated by history.  So you can imagine my delight when I learn something about the history of words which I didnt know before. Earlier this year I was watching Time Team ( secret vice of mine)  and they were excavating a monastery somewhere or other.  In the process they discovered some bones and it became apparent that the monastery had been used as a hospital at some point in its history.  As I was listening I heard someone explaining that before medical science became a thing, and before there was such a thing as a doctor or a hospital, monks used to provide care to local people and those travelling on pilgrimage.   They not only offered accommodation and food to people who were on long journeys on foot or horseback ( no Travel Lodge in those days!) but they would tend to minor injuries, blisters, sore feet, cuts and bruises, fatigue etc.  They only had very rudimentary natural medicines and little inst...

Day 11 - Good news

Over the past few weeks Ive spent alot of time with various people who are going through tough times.  Lots of people have been really very unwell.  There are a few really horrid bugs going about.  And then Ive had other friends who have suffered bereavements and others who are really struggling with work related stuff.   All of a sudden today I felt a bit overwhelmed by it all.  Im very thankful that right now everything in my life is relatively fine.  None of the Hamiltons have had any of the bugs that are doing the rounds, and we are all happy enough in our jobs and the rest of life is stress free ( for now)  But its hard to see friends struggling and its hard when each day it feels like theres more bad news coming round every corner.   What I need is some good news.
